new suite, same building

  • Dec. 1st, 2009 at 9:18 PM

I'm moving to a bigger suite in my building on Friday, its going to be so nice! All of the windows face the front street (Broadway), so we'll have better light and we'll have a balcony. Brian and I just got back from buying 3 different colours of paint for the new place. I think I'm taking Friday off work and getting my Dad to come over to help me paint the entire place.

Just excited.

The end of all that madness.

Jadine's ex-boyfriend was arrested on Sunday. He was charged with attempted murder and two counts each of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of a firearm while prohibited, and single counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and breach of probation. That's a lot of charges!!

Here is the actual newspaper write up, if you're interested.

Tuesday Nights

  • Nov. 17th, 2009 at 9:44 AM

Tonight is the first of my work's Tuesday Night activities for youth ages 14-29. Its a pretty neat program because the participants get free supper, each time we will be serving a different First Nations dish. Would you like to see part of the brochure I made for it? It runs every Tuesday from 5-8pm until the end of March, I'm looking forward to it.

We spent yesterday afternoon running around the city picking up supplies for tonight. My co-worker was blasting New Order and Rammstein, which made me kinda hide in the back seat (yet secretly enjoy it, although its not a secret that I've always wanted to go to Wacken). We both like the same euro-trash music. It also sorta reminded me of being in The Nederlands with Julie, driving down the highway at 160km/h with her blasting bass music. *wants to do it again*

The Boat That Rocked & Pirate Radio

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 10:34 AM

This morning I was given an opportunity to go out to the UK again this coming year, SHOULD I GO?? Or should I save money?

When I was in Ireland, earlier this year , I went to see a movie called The Boat That Rocked. I just found that it is only now being released in North America under the name... Pirate Radio. I watched the British and North American trailers and found that there are differences... one of them being that the North American one opens with, "In 1966, the British government banned rock n roll on the radio, until ONE AMERICAN DJ... raided the air waves." More shots of the only American actor are used to make it look like he's the main character of the story, and the hero. In reality, Philip Seymour Hoffman is one of the many characters in this movie and is not portrayed as a singular hero. Was it really neccassary to show different countries different trailers?

Here is the British trailer, and the North American trailer.

I also got cable this weekend, after not having it for probably about 4 years. I didn't realize there was such a high amount of infomercials and American drug commercials on Canadian tv. I'm going a little crazy, but its okay. I'll know what drug to ask my doctor for when the time comes.

mash-ups

  • Nov. 9th, 2009 at 9:41 PM

I'm feeling better this week, and I've got much more energy. I'm getting into the groove of going to bed, waking up and eating on a schedule finally. I never want to do shift work again, and especially not overnights. Work has been going really well, its actually exciting to go there every day. The people that I hired are super interesting and fun to spend 8 hours a day with.

I downloaded a bunch of music that I've always wanted to listen to, but never did this week: The Cure, Morrissey, The Smiths, Adam and the Ants, etc. I've become a huge Cure fan... I'm in love with It's Friday, I'm In Love. I also downloaded a bunch of M.I.A and must admit that I am very guilty of listening to it while walking home from work, and pretending that I'm fucking Billie Piper in Secret Diaries of A Call Girl walking down the streets of London... not that I didn't do the same thing all the times I've actually been in London...  Okay, I confess I walk like that all the time. Sue me. I've lost a bit of weight recently due to good old WW, and I'm back wearing my Top Shop skinny jeans also.

I've been walking to and from work, so thats helping the weight loss along with the fact that I just bought the new DDR. That should speed up the process even more. I've never thought of myself as a video game player, but I've been getting into them more lately. I've been trying to convince Brian to buy DJ Hero with me, but he's much better at being frugal than me. I just wanna hear the mash-ups... but I guess I'll just have to settle for girltalk for now. I almost died of delight when I heard No Diggity and 15 Step together just then.

*wonders why friends never go dancing anymore*

Oh yeh, and:

throat infection

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 1:45 PM

A couple cousins and I went to the hospital yesterday to see Jadine, and it was the same old story. They were telling us that there was no one there by that name. We explained that she'd called us the night before to ask us to come and see her, and they just continued to deny that she was admitted. They have her safety in mind, and I understand that... but all 3 of us are family, I guess that doesn't make a difference.

So I've been lugging my 17" laptop to work and back, and last night I decided that I needed a netbook. I got a pink one, and its making my life so much easier!

I woke up in the middle of the night last night with a super sore throat and feeling like I was burning up. I went to work today, not wanting to miss any days because I'm only in my second week there. I must have looked/sounded like hell because my co-worker said I should go to see a doctor today, and that I was clearly very sick. I went to a walk-in and I've got a throat infection. Sucks, but at least I've got antibiotics now. Should be feeling a lot better by tomorrow.

I'm going to take it easy for the rest of the day, its going to be very nice. The people that I hired might be starting tomorrow, I'm pretty excited about it.

You've got weekends off now? Yep.

  • Nov. 1st, 2009 at 5:45 PM

I spent all of yesterday with a fever, but was still able to put up wallpaper and sew curtains. My bedroom is coming together nicely. I'm really appreciating my evenings now that I'm working days, and its the best thing ever to come home to a comfortable room that looks nice to relax in. I'm going to have to make a video post of the new apartment like I did with the old one.

This weekend was the first in a long time that I wasn't working. Its AMAZING to have weekends off, I actually get to visit people. Daphne came over today to see the new place. We went shopping for a while, and then went to this Thai food place around the corner that I've been going to every day and eating mango salad. Its sooo good, I'm addicted.

I've been at the new job for a week now, and I'm quite liking it :)

P.S. - I love how no one commented about me getting married to [info]mr_fantastic, lol. Little does everyone know, its the most serious I've ever been about getting married to anyone.

vaccines & new job

  • Oct. 28th, 2009 at 8:58 PM

I had my H1N1 and seasonal vacines today. I waited for an hour and half at Portage Place for them. I feel relieved that I've had them now.

I'm half way through my first week of my new job. Its gone really well. I enjoy walking there and home. I like my coworkers, and the rest of the people that work in the building are super friendly. Today we gave cultural presentations about Turtle Island at an elementary school, I brought Brian's turtle to show around and the kids went nuts. Tomorrow I'm doing interviews to choose the Youth Mentors I'll be working with.

One of my New Years Resolutions was to watch more movies because I didn't have cable and rarely went to movies during the years I was in universtiy. I've watched tonnes of tv shows and movies in the last months, and now that I live downtown I think I would like to start going to see more movies at the cinematheque... you know, just to get out.

I watched Marie Antoinette for the millionth time last week, and I really want to be her for Halloween. Lol, we'll see.

Can anyone reccomend some movies/tv shows for me to download?

It has been a bad week

  • Oct. 25th, 2009 at 2:43 PM

This has been one of the worst weeks of my life.

Brian woke up a few nights in a row with red bumps on his body. He went to the doctor and they said it was most likely caused from bed bugs. We told the caretaker and she gave us a list of signs to look for to prove we had them, and we had none of them. We even put out bed bug traps (basically sticky cardboard that goes around your bed) and we didn't catch anything. Just to be cautious we bagged everything in the apartment that was fabric and washed it, and the place was fumigated on Friday.

We left the apartment Wednesday night, not wanting to sleep in a possible bed bug bed. We were allowed to return on Saturday after the 24 hour waiting period from the fumigation.... but we couldn't because a water main had busted and our building (and a block of Broadway) had no water. We have radiator steam heat, so no water also meant that we had no heat. No heat, no water and a poison scented apartment is what we were left with.

After a few nights of crappy sleep, I was having a nap yesterday when I was woken up by Jill. She called in a panic, asking if I was okay. She'd read my cousin Charlene's facebook status that said, "My cousin has been shot and is in the hospital!" and thought it was me. I was like, "Well... if Charlene's cousin has been shot, then they're probably my cousin too". That was when I found out it was Jadine. I'd had no internet or TV since the night she was shot, so I'd heard no media about it.

I was trying really hard to prepare myself to see her last night when the nurses showed us where her room was. I had no idea what she was going to look like, and I imagined I was going to bawl my eyes out and have nightmares for the rest of my life (I still might do both). Although I really wanted to see her, I was kind of relieved that the police wouldn't let us. She was unconscious anyway, and it actually helped my worrying to know that she was being guarded by armed cops. When she wakes up and is lucid enough to read my card, she'll know that I was there and that makes me feel better too.

I'm back in my apartment now, with heat and water. I start my new job tomorrow. Whew.

I just can't wait for her boyfriend to be found.

Jadine

  • Oct. 24th, 2009 at 3:36 PM

My cousin was shot on Wednesday night, she's in the hospital. She lost her arm and has head injuries. No one is allowed to see her because her boyfriend, who shot her, hasn't been found yet.

His name is Jared James Smoke.

I don't know what to do, I guess there's nothing I can do. I want to see her so badly.

Ka Ni Kanichihk

  • Oct. 20th, 2009 at 4:12 PM

I got a job today! I'm Ka Ni Kanichick's Youth Cultural Mentor .

It pays way better than my last job, has better & more hours and is less dangerous. Its still within walking distance, kinda. I'll walk there until it gets colder outside. I have weekends off now, so I can live my life like the rest of the world. I'm pretty excited.

My last day at my current job is tomorrow, I start this new one on Monday. This means I have 4 days off. *pees pants*

After I found out this morning, I went to Weight Watchers and found out that I'd lost 4 lbs... so then I went shopping for new work clothes. If you've recently lost weight, buying clothes is wayyyy more fun than usual. Today was a good day.

(Ka Ni Kanichihk is Cree for "Those Who Lead" for anyone who was wondering what a crazy name it is for a workplace).

newness

  • Oct. 19th, 2009 at 10:50 PM

I had 2 job interviews today. One of them called me less than an hour afterwards to tell me that they are very interested in hiring me, they just needed one more reference. Last week I was totally jaded about everything, but now I'm feeling optimistic and new.

There is something about having a huge change in my life that makes me want to get my hair cut differently, actually put effort into wearing makeup and buying new clothes. I bought some new makeup today, so that is sorta proof of something since I never buy makeup anymore.

I joined weight watchers a couple weeks ago and I'm losing weight again. Just changes everywhere!

I have a mad crush on France Gall, and love this song of hers.

Oh yeh, and I'm getting married to [info]mr_fantastic, probably sometime next year, lol.

The Beatles: Rock Band

  • Oct. 12th, 2009 at 10:39 AM

I almost fell over and died with delight and pleasure when I saw this.

I had been purposely trying not to mind anything about it since it came out, I was scared of disappointment or utter... utter infatuation. Turns out the latter is what happened. I have to buy this game this week, I'll likely lock myself in, lose my job, starve, have to wear a diaper like an astronaut, etc afterwards, but I'll be happy! I'll have to invite my cousins over for a sleepover to play this all night, because no one else understand these seemingly inate emotions that I have when I listen to this music.

Post a picture in my comments that you think describes me when you think about what/who I am. No matter how surreal or plain. Give no written explanation. Just an image.

new apartment

  • Oct. 4th, 2009 at 10:30 PM

I'm moved into the new apartment!

I've been super busy over the last few days. I moved, hung out with Julie, went to Brayden's wedding and painted my kitchen (pics coming soon). I'm still unpacking and organizing stuff. I don't work until the weekend, so I'm hoping to have a nice relaxing week :)

one more week

  • Sep. 22nd, 2009 at 6:16 AM

I've been awake since 5am, yuck. All summer I've been battling a clogged nose, well not so much clogged as it just feels like its swollen inside. I finally looked into sinusitis, and I'm going to my doctor today with my theory. We'll see what he says.

Only a week until I move into my new apartment! I really can't wait. My place right now is full of boxes and garbage bags of all my stuff, its driving me crazy. As of right now, I am only working weekends for October. This is awesome because it means I can unpack leisurely and have an organized apartment sooner than later.

I also decided that since I'm going to be literally down the street from the downtown Weight Watchers office, I'm going to join again. I haven't been a member for 2 years, but I think I would like to be. It forces me to prepare meal for myself, rather than just eating whatever is fastest or closest. I lost a crazy amount of weight last time, and have managed to keep off most of it - which is uncommon, so its kind of like I have a jump start this time. Also, once this nose problem is fixed, I'll actually be able to have some good workouts again.  Just excited!

I've been going through training with work for counselling. There is still a lot of info to be covered, but its pretty awesome. I'm finally feeling validated for the way I handled many situations over the last 2 years with kids. At my last job, I was thrown into too many situations that required someone with a serious background in either social work or counselling, of which I had neither. I spent way too many hours tending to these serious situations, and then worrying afterwards if everything I did was really what I was supposed to do. I'm feeling much better and dare I say, maybe even confident. I have a feeling that a lot of people don't really know what I do, maybe I should make a post about that?

lookbook

  • Sep. 17th, 2009 at 9:42 PM

My legs have been very sore since [info]limitation and I went to our pole dancing class the other day. I still can't believe we were the only 2 people in the entire class, although I appreciated it.  I think I want to sign up for the 5 week class, its really fun and I would like to build some muscle.

[info]sinkandrise! You're probably busy with school, but wouldn't it be awesome to make this or this?

Anyone heard of www.lookbook.nu ? I have this picture of myself that was taken in Dublin in the spring, and it sorta looks like it could pass as a lookbook pic. What do you think?

bingo & redheads

  • Sep. 11th, 2009 at 12:03 AM

I'm going to play bingo tomorrow :)

Also, as if there is an annual meet for redheads... and its in the nederlands!! I'm totally there for next year. Speaking of the Dutch, its only 2 weeks until my cousin Julie (from the nederlands!!) will be here to visit me! So excited.

(article stolen from [info]phantomlimb)

P.S. - As if (again) Russell Brand was on the fucking View! I must take this opportunity to say that I really love Whoopi.

goodbye yellow brick road

  • Sep. 9th, 2009 at 12:33 AM

-Last night I went to see [info]good4sule 's new place in Osborne. Holy crap, it is just nice and I will be visiting her alot more now that she no longer lives in the sticks (or St. James as others like to call it).

-Today I got a manicure for the first time ever. I spent most of the day with [info]limitation. We went to Portage Place and then to Polo Park and looked around. I didn't buy too much, but it was fun and I enjoy spending time with her.

-I also saw my doctor today about what happened almost 2 weeks ago when I was in the hospital. A few days after it happened, I was looking around online for an explanation. My first inclination was to look up more info on narcolepsy, which led me to  this. I printed it out and gave it to my doctor, and we both agree that that is the best explanation for what happened. Unless it starts happening frequently, we agreed there would be no steps taken as far as medication goes.

-I am in this really uncomfortable state between moving and still living in the old apartment.  I want to move to the new place so badly. I keep looking at that Apartment Therapy website and I'm going crazy. I'm also obsessed with LaceandFlora.

-Last week I was at a thrift store and Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was playing. Since then, I've been singing along, "ooooooohh, ahhhhhh" every day and geeking out to it big time. David Bowie's The Prettiest Star and Time have also been making me "fall wanking to the floor" this week. I think I may have to be Aladdin Sane this year for Halloween. I stil can't believe I've seen this man in person all those years ago. *love*

Lou Taylor Pucci

  • Sep. 7th, 2009 at 6:44 PM

Yesterday, I was told about a movie called The Horsemen from [info]limers& [info]luinbariel. I downloaded it because it was filmed in Winnipeg, and part of it was filmed in the tattoo place that I was doing my apprenticeship at. I just watch a few seconds of it and OMG LOU PUCCI TAYLOR is in it!! I can't believe he was in Winnipeg and I didn't know!! Wait, doesn't  this sound familiar?

I've had a major crush on Lou Taylor Pucci since Thumbsucker.
